It is quite difficult to get hold of italian wine which is remarkable when you think that Italy is one of, if not the largest producer of wine in the world. There is obviously an incredibly strong market for Italian wine in Italy, but the English Market is mostly limited to cheap bottles of Suave Classico, which whilst being a delightful aperitif, is not the most exciting wine to come out of Italy!

You will probably find that the selection of Italian wines that you find in most retail outlets in England is very limited, and this is in part historical. For whatever reason, Italian wine has not sold in the bucket load in the United Kingdom, and for this reason people are reluctant to stock the wine.

Thankfully there are ways to have a fantastic selection of Italian wines, and if you purchase your wine on the internet you will have thousands of Italian bottles at your finger tips. There are now websites devoted to the sale of wine which let you search by country of origin, and if you do this for Italian wine then you will certainly find a heady collection and you won’t know where to begin on your discovery of Italian wine! You will find sumptuous Barolo’s, deep and rich Sangiovese’s and delightfully strong Nebbiolo wines. Don’t be put off by the varietals in Italian wines, many are similar to Grapes grown in France, and it is just a case of learning about them online prior to purchasing.
